Tari Smith

Tari Smith - Sailing InstructorTari started sailing on his family sailboat before he could walk. Wooden boats were prevalent with one of his first jobs while racing on a wood boat was bailing out the water. He built his first boat, an 8 foot Pram, in 7th grade. While in high school he built a dingy and custom tillers to earn extra spending money.

Tari’s sailing interests cover cruising and racing including competition in Snipe, Scow and DN (ice boat) classes. Most of his experience involved solo sailing which requires an extremely high level of safety precautions. He is a memer of the Great Lakes Single Handed Society, Lake Michigan Single Handed Society and a life member of the Muskegon Yacht Club.

Tari became a certified American Sailing Association instructor in 2010 and is thankful for the opportunity saying it has been very rewarding to see others experience the joy of sailing. “You can always learn and you can learn from everyone.”
